A bit about me and Wellbeing & Birth

Hi, I’m Claire, the founder of Wellbeing & Birth, Wise Hippo hypnobirthing instructor, YogaBirth teacher and proud mum to 3-year-old Charlie.

As an independent childbirth educator, I’m a specialist in what I do. I do it because I’m passionate about mothers to be and their partners wellbeing, emotional and psychological as well as physical. I want you to approach birth feeling clam, confident, empowered and excited, you have my support right up to birth and beyond.

My journey began when I fell pregnant with my son in 2015, I had no idea, I was scared and clueless so I know exactly how you might be feeling now! I choose to bury my head in the sand, the baby would come out somehow right..? As the birth approached, I faced induction and went along with whatever I was told. Luckily for me I have done quite a bit of yoga over the years and in labour I found myself instinctively using the breathing techniques I had learnt in yoga classes to help me through my contractions before being offered and accepting pain relief because I had no tools or techniques to use instead.

So birth happened to me, in the end I did give birth naturally for which I’m grateful but I know it could and should have been a much more positive experience and that’s why I decided I wanted to help other mums prepare for their births, learn essential skills and tools and be able to make informed decisions that are right for them, their baby and their family.

Like some of you pregnant with your second or third child I know I want to do things differently next time, preparing properly, approaching my birth in a relaxed but confident way, able to stay in control, knowing I have choices and am making informed decisions which are best for me, my baby and my family. If you find yourself knowing you need to do things differently please get in touch, I will guide and support you through your pregnancy and birth, teaching you all the tools and techniques you need to have a positive birth regardless of what path your birth takes.

In 2017 I began my YogaBirth training. Its specialist training, covering in great detail yoga not only safe, but truly beneficial in pregnancy and birth, alongside in-depth knowledge about pregnancy and birth taught by some incredible midwifes and doulas. YogaBirth training is accredited by the Royal College of Midwifes which is a real mark of excellence. I’m now running weekly classes; you can find out more about the classes and read what some of the women I have taught say about the classes on the YogaBirth page of this website.

After a lot of research, I decided the next step was for me to train to teach The Wise Hippo Birthing Program, a hypnobirthing antenatal programme. There are a few different hypnobirthing programs available these days and I wanted to make sure that I taught the right one, I wasn’t comfortable with the idea of teaching women that the only positive births are natural births without any pain relief. I’m realistic and life isn’t always straightforward, so The Wise Hippo was the obvious choice for me as it’s focused on having the right birth on the day, learning how to remain calm and in control even when life throws you curve balls and a positive birth is a state of mind not defined by what happened during labour and birth but by how a woman feels about her birth.  I was incredibly fortunate to be trained by Dany Griffiths and Tamara Cianfini, founders of the Wise Hippo Program. It isn’t good enough just to know your stuff you have to be able to teach it in a way that’s going to help people and the Wise Hippo definitely do that. The Wise Hippo Birthing Programme is accredited by The Royal College of Midwifes and FEDANT.

As part of my work I sometimes come into contact with women who sadly didn’t have a positive experience of birth, sometimes things don’t go to plan and it can leave women feeling their birth was a frightening, traumatic and negative experience. I felt strongly that I wanted to be able to help parents move forward with life, often meaning you can approach your next birth more positively so I trained as a Traumatic Birth Recovery 3 Step Rewind practitioner and offer a birth debriefing service, contact me for more information.

I’ve done lots of other training along the way to expand and deepen my knowledge, you should never stop learning, there is always more to learn.

If you would like to talk about your pregnancy and birth, how I can help you or you have any questions please get in touch.
